Focus on intrinsic NOT the extrinsic motivations! Intrinsic goals are better because they are internal to YOU. You can control them, things like autonomy, mastery and purpose. Extrinsic goals are external to you and often you can chase something you have no control over achieving. Examples are meeting an external goal, garnering praise or approval, winning a competition or award.
