It was a pleasure to interview Lorry Driver Luke Vernon, he is a social media star, referring to himself on Linked In as; 'Writer/Blogger/Vlogger/Photographer/Trainer/Occasional Driver of Coaches & Trucks/Social Media Whore & Open To Offers' and then on his YouTube channel intros himself; 'Howdy doodle, my name is Luke & my consigliere is Bertie. I'm an infamous weirdo gay trucker videoing my travels round Europe and spouting complete nonsense.'

Luke shares hard hitting insights from his near fatal crash and experience with getting his license reinstated from the DVLA.

His Half Dozen Things are;

1) His driving career runs in the family

2) It’s solitary nature. He loves being alone and is happiest alone    

3) Travel. The fact he's seen an enormous amount and been to more places that most people could fit into ten lifetimes. 

4) Able to chop and change jobs easily    

5) Spending your days immersed in the radio, music or audiobooks  

6) Time to think. 

National Lorry Week Special with RHA National Chair & MD of Cullimore Group, Moreton Cullimore | AHDT S2#29

In this episode we celebrate the Road Haulage Association's, National Lorry Week with RHA Director and National Chairperson Moreton Cullimore.  Moreton is also the MD of Cullimore Group.  

Moreton shares fantastic industry insights from both is his business and role with the RHA too.  We discuss current challenges and opportunities for the Haulage sector.  What it is like to be a 3rd generation business owner.  As well as what we can do to make the Transport industry a more desirable career for people.

RUSHcast; What are the proposed changes to driving licences? | AHDT S2#22

In this episode, we explore what the prosed HGV Driving Licence changes look like. It’s important to note that the changes below are only proposed changes currently and a consultation took place on these proposed changes between 10 August until 7 September 2021. The results from the consultation are due within the next three months of 2021.

There are three proposed main changes, and these are summarised below.

Change 1: removing the current staging requirements for licence acquisition Basically, a car driver will be able to apply for a provisional for both C and CE entitlement at the same time. A driver can then choose which test to take first. If they decide to go straight to take a test in an articulated lorry and then pass, they would be granted the following entitlements – C+E, C, C1 and C1+E.

Change 2: considering alternative arrangements for the conduct of the reversing manoeuvres. This proposed change allows the reversing part of the test to be conducted and assessed by a third party, this will free up time for the examiners to be able to add more tests to their daily schedule. The third party will also conduct the trailer coupling and un-coupling assessment.

Change 3: allow car drivers to tow a trailer without the need for an additional test This will allow drivers who passed their car test after January 1997 to be able to tow a trailer up to 3500kg although, MAM for car and trailer must not exceed 7000kg, Those who passed their test prior to January 1997 already have this entitlement on their licences.
